Tata Sons Ltd v Satish Kumar vs. North Western Railways

family judiciary intermediate real_case

I am still trying to wrap my head around this 2015 judgment of Bombay High Court. The case deals with a man who married a woman and later moved to another country. His daughter from a previous marriage was living with them. When the man died, his daughter contested to inherit his property but faced difficulties due to the absence of intestacy laws in some states in India. The court ultimately ruled that a Hindu son or daughter can inherit property from any other Hindu, even when the latter has no direct relationship with the former.

What y'all think? Is this a progressive ruling or an overreach of judicial powers? Do you agree that Hindu inheritance laws should be amended to include relatives more loosely connected? Or do you think it's a slippery slope for family disputes?
