SC Judgment: Reopening of Murder Trial after 25 Years?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. In Rajesh Sharma v. State of UP (2017), the Supreme Court held that in a murder case, the court can take cognizance of a new accusation even if it's filed after the limitation period (12 years under the Limitation Act) if the accused had not disclosed the fact in their earlier statement under Section 302 of the IPC.

To me, it's a bit too much to allow a new accusation after 25 years like in this case. Can we really expect the court to dig up evidence and recall old witnesses after so many years? It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I'm worried about the CUET PG Law exam โ€“ will this be a tricky question? Family still hopes I can get them out of traffic challans, yeh to nai baat hai!
