Contract Labour: Kamaal Ki Khichdi of Legal Rights
labour judiciary beginner analogy_postImagine a street food stall in Mumbai - Jalebi wala, Chai wala, everything. But this one stall has a special twist - the owner gets the work done through a separate guy, Jalebi master, and pays him a monthly 'kabzaai'. Now, if the Jalebi master asks for a raise, who's responsible? The stall owner or the Jalebi master? Under contract labour law, the stall owner is actually the 'main contractor' and is responsible for ensuring the Jalebi master's rights are protected. This is called 'principal employer' - the one who hires the contract labour. It's like the 'kabzaai' (main contractor) has to share their rights with the 'bandar' (contract labour) for a yummy plate of khichdi (rights).
