Understanding the Elusive Concept of 'Holding' in Administrative Law

I've seen it again and again in textbooks - the term 'holding' is thrown around, but no one explains it in a way that makes sense. They say it's the conclusion of a court, but what does that even mean? Can someone give a concrete example of how 'holding' is used in real-life cases?
