The IPC is Overemphasized in CLAT PG, at the Expense of BNS Law
criminal clat_pg advanced hot_takeMainly, I think law students, especially those targeting CLAT PG or AILET PG, give far too much importance to the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It's like, we spend half our time studying section after section, case after case, but what about the real world implications? Who applies the IPC in their daily work? In contrast, Business and Nautical Science (BNS) Law is hardly touched upon, and yet it's the future โ maritime law is booming.
In India, more and more businesses are turning global, involving international trade, contracts, and arbitration. A thorough understanding of BNS Law can make all the difference. We should be focusing on this area, rather than just regurgitating IPC sections. It's time we revised our teaching approach and made it more relevant to the changing times.
