Section 498A: The 'In-Laws' Law

So every time my parents ask me to marry a 'suitable' girl and I'm like 'beta abe, let's get to know her first', I think of Section 498A of IPC. It's that infamous 'domestic violence' law that's used to 'teach' husbands a lesson (read: to scare them). My friend's cousin got divorced because his wife's family claimed her in-laws were mentally torturing her (basically, they didn't get her the iPhone she wanted). The courts take it seriously, as they should, but it's a double-edged sword. One wrong move, and you could end up in jail for dowry harassment. Just saying, my parents, take note.
