Section 34 IPC: A Never-Ending Puzzle

criminal du_llb beginner concept_confusion

I don't know about others but I am totally lost with Section 34 IPC. It says that if 'a person is, or is, or becomes, by any means whatsoever, directly or indirectly' involved in the commission of a criminal act due to the act of another person, all involved become liable for the consequences. But what if this other person is the victim? Does it mean the victim becomes an abettor? It's like, a person fights back when attacked and in the process, someone else gets hurt. Is the person who fought back guilty? Section 34 creates a huge grey area. It's like the law is saying: 'if you're involved, you're guilty, no matter what'. This is not just a matter of interpretation; it's a fundamental flaw in the law itself. It needs a relook, but what do you guys think?
