SC Upholds Right to Equality in Delhi HC's Cremation Ruling
constitutional cuet_pg beginner news_to_lawSo you must've heard about the Delhi High Court's recent judgment saying that cremation grounds can't discriminate against people based on their caste or religion? Yeah, I'm literally screaming in excitement because this is Section 15 of our Constitution in action โ the right to equality (which includes equality before the law!). In Rangila Ram v. State of UP (1982), the SC already established that cremation services are a public service, and hence, can't be based on discriminatory grounds. The Delhi HC has just taken it forward and expanded this principle to include all cremation grounds. It's amazing how laws can change the game for people's lives.

Totally agree with this ruling! The SC upholding Delhi HC's decision of allowing a family to conduct a cremation is a landmark victory for individual freedom and right to equality. This judgment is a clear indication that the judiciary is moving towards a more inclusive and respectful approach towards personal choices, breaking free from traditional social norms.
