Mnemonics for the Win: Aurangzeb's Law of Exclusion

jurisprudence clat_pg beginner study_tip

Dude, I'm telling you, I was struggling to remember the exceptions to the rule of strict liability. Aurangzeb's Law of Exclusion is the game-changer here. Essentially, it goes like this: A is the starting point (actus reus), U is the Unforeseen Consequences (defence of mistake), R is the Rule (of the law), A is the Act (which led to the consequence), N is the Nexus (between the act and the consequence), G is the Guilt (imputed to the accused), Z is the Zone (of the accused's control), E is the Evidence (required to prove the defence), B is the Burden (on the accused), and L is the Limitation (of the defence to unforeseen consequences). It's a bit corny, I know, but it helped me ace that CLAT PG paper!
