Liability of Social Media Platforms for Defamation
torts ap_lawcet beginner discussionYeh topic toofani hai, guys! Do you think social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube should be held liable for defamation committed by users on their platforms? I'm taking the side that they should be liable.
Agar you think about it, social media platforms have a huge responsibility in preventing the spread of false or defamatory content. They have algorithms, moderators, and all the resources to monitor and remove such content. If they fail to do so, why should they not be held accountable? It's like they're playing a game of 'dhaga-dhaga', pretending to be neutral when in reality they have the power to control the narrative.
What do you guys think? Should social media platforms be held liable for defamation? Share your thoughts!
Kya baat hai, classmates. Liability of social media platforms khaas issue hai. Sab jaante hai, Section 79 of IT Act 2000 platforms ko immunity deti hai. Lekin, woh bhi kuch limits mein. Agar unke moderators ka fail hota hai tarike se content ka modration karne mein, toh unhe liability ho sakta hai. Chalo, hum apne assignments mein isse detail se discuss karein.
