Gangrape Victim in UP Jailed After Filing FIR

You guys have to see this, its like Section 182 IPC come to life. Just last month in UP, a girl who was allegedly gangraped by 3 guys was arrested and jailed for 2 days for giving a false statement in her FIR. Now, the police say she had initially said 2 guys were involved but later revealed 3 more. What's the big deal, right? Isn't it just a change in statement? According to lawyers, it's actually a case of perjury and could land her in jail for up to 3 years.

Doesn't this incident show the fine line we walk between protecting the accuser and protecting the rights of the accused? Section 182 IPC deals with 'false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person'.
