Don't Worry, It's Just a Power Struggle - Understanding the Basic Structure Doctrine

Similarly, in the Basic Structure Doctrine, the Supreme Court is saying that certain fundamental features of our Constitution are non-negotiable, like the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary. These are the 'script' of our democracy, and no one can alter or compromise them without the Court's approval.

This doctrine was established in the landmark case of Kesavananda Bharati vs State of Kerala (1973) and has since been used to strike down amendments that violate these fundamental features.
