Criminal Liability of Minors: IPC 82, 83, 84 - What's the Catch?

Meh bhi kya jaanu, but I was reading IPC 82, 83, 84 and I'm like wth? Okay so, under IPC, minors are not liable for their acts, yeah yeah, that's all good. But then it gets tricky. What if the minor is "of an age of discretion"? Or if they're "acquainted with and understood the nature of the act"? Like, what's the age of discretion supposed to be? 12? 15? 18? And even if the minor understood the act, is the law saying they're culpable? This is all so confusing. Also, why is there a distinction between different sections? Can someone explain to me why we have these three sections and what's the practical difference between them? Any help will be appreciated, guys!

"Bhai log, yaar, I think yahaan problem hai with IPC 82, 83 aur 84. Ye sections kahaaniyaan bolte hain, par vajah se majboorata ki wajah se bachchon par dand nahin lag sakta. Ab 82 mein majboorana kahte hain, par 83 mein majboorana ke beech farq karte hai. Aur 84 mein koi vishesh majboorana hota hai.

Beta, criminal liability of minors is a complex topic. IPC sections 82, 83, and 84 specify that minors, above 7 years and below 12 years, are punished as juvenile, while those above 12 years are held accountable under the regular IPC. But, what's the catch? Well, the judiciary has the power to waive the sentence or reduce it, considering the child's age and maturity level.
