CPC Section 96 ka kya meaning hai?

Main toh abhi tak confuse reha hun. Mere professor ne bola ki CPC Section 96 ek non-suit case hai, magar kuch dusron ne kaha ki ye ek dismissal ka case hai. Kya sach mein dono hi correct hai? CPC Section 96 mein yeh likha hai ki "When a suit has failed by reason of some formal defect, or where any party has failed to attend the court or to prosecute or defend it, it may be dismissed and the party in default shall pay such costs as the court directs." Toh kya yeh mean hai ki is section mein dono hi cases cover hain? Non-suit aur dismissal? Aur kya to ismein formal defect ke bare mein detailed jankari di jaati hai? Please help karein!
