Contract Law - The Bane of a Budding Lawyer

Contract Law is overhyped in our DU LLB entrance exams. I blame the emphasis on landmark judgments and the relative neglect of contractual principles. We're asked to mug up the ratio decidendi of every case, but are we applying the underlying theories? Take the case of B. M. Malhotra v. R. K. Kapur, where Justice Subba Rao laid down the principles of contractual intent. Instead of regurgitating the facts, we should focus on understanding the reasoning behind the decision. This isn't just about memorization; it's about applying the principles to real-world scenarios. By focusing on the trees, we're losing sight of the forest.
