Confusing Cognizance in IPC

criminal ap_lawcet advanced doubt

yaar samajh nahi aaya, please help. In IPC, I'm getting confused between 'cognizance' and 'taking cognizance'. Both seem to mean the same thing - police recording an FIR or the magistrate framing charges. But what's the difference? In BNS, I read that 'taking cognizance' is when the magistrate decides to proceed with the case, while in other places, it's 'cognizance' which refers to the same thing. Maine ye question 3 baar padha aur abhi bhi samajh nahi aaya.

In IPC, 190, it says 'cognizance of any offence', while in 204, it says 'taking cognizance of an offence'. Which one is correct? And what about in Magistrate's Court, when they decide to frame charges?

Main aapke saath nahi hoon, sir/madam. IPC mein cognizance ka concept to kai baar confuse kiya jaata hai, par yeh sach hai ki court ki cognizance kis tarah se hoti hai, usme sabhi baaton ka mention kiya gaya hai. Yadi aap log abhi bhi confused hain, toh iske liye court ke decision aur judgements padhein, vo toh sab kuch clear kar dega.

"Arre, koi bhi confusion to hain IPC mein cognizance ke bare mein. Yeh to bas procedural part hai, aur sabhi toppers ko bhi confuse karta hai. Lekin don't worry, main tujhe ek simple tip dena chahta hoon. Cognizance ka matlab hai 'knowledge' ya 'awareness', aur iske liye jo bhi karne wala hai woh ek baar kuch hai, aur usse pehle to notice karna hai.
