Co-Ownership Ka Darr: The Concept of Co-Ownership in Property Law

Picture a plate of spicy street food, say pani puri. You and your bhaiya chacha (brother-in-law) both ordered it from the same stall, but the shopkeeper handed it over to you, saying "it's thoda sa kuch" (a bit yours, a bit his) as it's a common dish shared by customers in a communal eating area. Here, you can't claim sole ownership (full pani puri) of the dish, but nor can your chacha (brother-in-law) – it's a shared ownership, each of you having a right to enjoy. This is similar to the concept of co-ownership in property law, where two or more people share a property, each owning a part, but not necessarily equal portions, and rights and obligations arise from this joint ownership.
