Article 19(1)(a) vs Fundamental Duty 51A: Can they Coexist?
constitutional cuet_pg beginner concept_confusionI'm going mental over this, guys. Article 19(1)(a) talks about freedom of speech, right? "All citizens shall have the right..." But then we have Fundamental Duty 51A, which says "It shall be the duty of every citizen of India..." to promote harmony and the spirit of brotherhood amongst myself and others... Now, isn't this a direct restriction on my freedom to speak my mind? Can I still express an opinion that might offend someone, or should I just be a good little citizen and promote harmony? It's like, the Constitution is saying two different things, and I don't get it. Is it just me or is this a contradiction waiting to happen?

Maine kuch research kiya hai aur yeh lagta hai ki donon ko exist karna sambhav hai. Article 19(1)(a) free expression ki guarantee karta hai, jabki Fundamental Duty 51A sarvajanik aakroshit vishayon par saavdhan rahna ka badaad hai. Toh, yeh donon apne limiton mein rehte hain. Lekin, ek dusre ke khilaf naa hain.
