Cracking Family Law: A Night‑Owl’s AILET Cheat Sheet
How to juggle the Hindu Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act, and recent Supreme Court rulings while burning midnight oil.

When I first opened the law library at 2 a.m., the sheer volume of statutes felt like a maze. But for AILET, you only need to master the skeleton: the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 (Sections 5, 13, 20, 23, 25), the Special Marriage Act, 1954 (Sections 4, 6, 7, 10), and the Indian Divorce Act, 1869 (Sections 3, 5, 6). Don’t forget the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (Sections 3, 4, 7) and the Family Courts Act, 1984 (Sections 2, 5). These are the pillars; everything else is scaffolding.
My trick? I write each statute’s key sections on a single sticky note and tape them to my monitor. The visual cue forces the law into my memory before I even read the commentary.
Case Law that Sticks
Statutes alone are a dry lecture; the cases bring them to life.
